Some Random Filler For November

Can’t believe I neglected this blog over the weekend. My streak fizzled out just like that, and now I’m back to 0 again. Sheesh…

Working in a non-aircond environment is starting to take its toll on me physically. I’m getting my allergies again because of the sweat from wearing long pants in a hot and humid environment. They tell me I can choose to wear shorts if I want to, but I guess it just feels a bit weird going to work in shorts. Plus I still have to wear shoes, and I don’t have the best dress sense so I have a feeling I’m going to end up with a very salah mismatch attire of some kind of top with my very few shorts, socks and one of my 3 shoes.

And speaking of socks, a lot of my socks have gone missing now that I remember. I bought quite a lot of socks during my first 2 HK trips some 2-3 years ago, and I just realised I have no idea where they are now. I’ve been wearing my Melb-bought socks all this while, which although serves its purpose, are all in the same black colour and thus would further contribute to the salah-ness of my overall outfit.

And oddly enough, I was thinking of HK on my way back from work today. I’ve been visiting HK each year for the past 3 years already, and this year it seems quite likely with the little time left that I won’t be able to fulfill my “religious” obligations. Sob sob… my hui lau san. And of course, wu yuen san oso la. God knows the wrath that would fall upon me if I forgot about her. 😛

I wonder how my holidays are going to be like now that I’m working. The typical long holidays such as Christmas or CNY will change for me now that I don’t have the luxury of being away for too long. Well, if I were to have stayed in my current company they’d probably be flexible about it, but as I’m switching to a big one that has more procedures and approval processes it might get tricky. Who knows the people might already be pre-booking their CNY leaves and I’m pretty sure they’re not gonna let EVERYBODY take leave so I might get left behind along with the non-CNY-balik-kampung people. Sob sob again.

Dunno what’s wrong with my life now. Like some sad drama story. Hopefully got happy ending. Then again, whatever the outcome whether good or bad, if I’m happy, then I guess it constitutes as a happy ending regardless. So it’s all about how you view things people! If you see shit as shit, then it’s shit. If you see it as an opportunity, then you might need to get your head examined. 🙂

Happy 82nd Birthday Grandpa

Well I think that’s his age. I just got back from Teluk Intan on Sunday after spending about 3 days there for grandpa and grandma’s joint birthday celebration, which was purposely coincided with Singapore’s National Day so that my Singapore relatives had a long weekend for them to come up. It was the usual food fare with pisang goreng, chee cheong fun, cendol/ice kacang/yo-yo ice, mee rebus, and of course the big family dinner at the same restaurant we went to for CNY dinner. Apart from mahjong/cards and watching “home cinema” (ahem ahem), food is all there is to do.

This time around my other near-same-age cousins didn’t return so I didn’t have much to do. Played some games on my iPhone, and then my aunts took pity on me and decided to let me play mahjong with them for the first time. I usually play mahjong with my cousins, so it was a change to play with the “grown ups” for once. The rules are slightly tougher than what I’m used to but I caught on quickly and was faring well. It was just a bit disorienting cos they tended to call the tiles and scoring systems in Hokkien instead of Canto which is what I’m used to, but other than that I managed to score a net loss of about RM2. So yup, yay for me! 😀

My relatives all love to come back to Teluk Intan for the foods, especially my Singapore uncle who can’t wait to get his hands on the pisang goreng and chee cheong fun. I never really “realised” this, but both stalls are located within meters of a huge garbage dump. My uncle attributes the “additional flavours” as what makes these foods taste so much better than what you can usually find elsewhere. Plus things here are so dirt cheap. RM1 buys you like 3 pieces of pisang goreng. We went to a tong sui shop, 5 of us each ordered a tong sui and also we shared some kuihs, and the total barely touched RM10. In KL, RM10 can probably only cover one person. I bought a large panfried raddish cake to eat, and that big piece cost 50sen! FIFTY SEN! You can’t find anything for 50sen in the city anymore, unless it’s for one pathetic bite-sized candy sweet. So ya, the wonders of small town.

But Teluk Intan as it seems is getting bigger. Not only did McDonalds open up late last year to give old-timer KFC much needed competition, Giant hypermarket and also Old Town White Coffee both opened shop here already. Finally some real competition to the kampung-ubiquitous Billion and Fajar shopping centre chains, though I’m not sure how Old Town can compete with the many local kopitiams littered all over the town, especially price-wise. I guess only time will tell.

So enough with the hometown travel diary. Life back in KL is still the same. Still waiting for a job to fall from the sky. I haven’t sent résumés since two weeks ago, and I’m still waiting for my one and only interview which got postponed from yesterday to this coming Friday. Hopefully it stays in the slot and even more hopeful would be that I get the job and perform remarkably well! Hehehe… wishful thinking, I hope not. 😛

Till then, I’ve got to motivate myself to do up a proper portfolio and also get it printed. I had thought of printing it at home to save money, but my printer’s being a bit weird as well with the whole borderless printing configuration. It’s been ages since I’ve used this printer, but thankfully after replacing the ink cartridges it’s printing properly again unlike my stupid printer back in Melbourne. Yes, the one I wanted to throw out the window. Retarded Epson. Sayang my trusty Canon i550 printer, which has lasted me for yearsssssssss. I’m still so old-school in that I have a printer AND a separate scanner instead of the common all-in-one that most people have nowadays. Trying to be thrifty since I’m going to become a struggling creative for a while. And I’m going to try my best to resist relying on mummy’s money as best as I possibly can.

Need to be independent just cos it’s part of growing up. No other logical reason. 😛

Need to change the header

Well if you hadn’t guessed it, I’m back in Malaysia. Have been for the past like 2 weeks plus, running around being a tour guide to my RMIT friends who came back to Malaysia. The first week tho was pretty much ruined thanks to this uncle (dad’s church friend) who was on the same flight as Pinky (RMIT classmate from HK) and me, who later turned out to be positive for H1N1 and ended up having Pinky, me, AND my driver mum home quarantined for a whole week. Sucks, especially for Pinky who thankfully had another 1 week plus left before going back to Melb with the rest of them.

Many things have happened over the past week plus, and I guess a lot more should be happening in the coming weeks. Most daunting of all would be the job hunt, a task which I am starting to feel lazy about and also a bit blah. But I think if I don’t find one soon, I’m just going to be rotting away at home doing nothing and living off mum, which I guess I have been doing long enough and hope to stop as soon as possible.

Haven’t gone to the extent of hitting people up for string-pulling and name-dropping yet, as I’m currently sort of taking it slow and easy. It’s not that I’m waiting for the perfect job to fall from the sky, but I guess I want to make sure that I find something that I won’t regret doing later on. That has been one of my biggest fears for the longest of time. I don’t want to regret.

K la, that’s all for now. Hopefully the next post I update will be positively good news. 😀

Merry Christmas

Alloo… finally figured out how to add the snow effect to the blog, half-thanks to Chen who was too busy preparing her coffee + tausar peah to respond to me quick enough when I asked her how she added falling snow for her blog.

Anyhoo, will be off to Singapore tomorrow by car, and I’m driving. Leaving at an ungodly hour of 7am, detouring to Taman Desa to pickup my aunt before heading down south for the next 6 days. Won’t be updating much probably, since I don’t plan to bring my laptop down and using my phone to update isn’t very easy either. I am officially swearing off touchscreen keypad phones from now on… and I think you should too. They’re useless for sms-ing while driving. Utterly useless! 😛

K la, enough of my pointless rants. Hope everyone has a merry christmas, safe flights/travels, holidays, and I’ll see ya all when I get back!

Christmas is Coming

081215 Bangsar Village Gingerbread HouseIt’s that time of year again where they deck the malls with boughs of holly, and I’ll be off to Singapore for my annual Christmas celebrations.

I know I haven’t been updating much, as I probably say in every post. WordPress has changed the Dashboard and it does look quite nifty now. I like! Maybe more incentive/inspiration to blog more frequently.

Till then, have a merry Christmas and a happy new year to all! I’ll be accepting gift gifts from now till CNY when it should be cash gifts instead. 😛

Not Very Sexy

Name that Sex Position - Sex Positions Quiz
Scored kinda low. See, this shows that I’m not very perverted, that’s why!

Haven’t been blogging since dad was around the past 1week plus. It was not bad, went to Sydney and all although didn’t get to do much stuffs. Anyhoo, this is just a filler post for the time being. I kinda wish I got my blogging mojo back, like how I used to blog nearly everyday waaaaaay back when I first started on Blogger waaaaay before it got bought over by Google even.

Tick Tock Tick August

Can’t believe it’s already August! I’m going in to week 3 out of 12 for my semester and that’s like less than 3 months more till I get to go back to Malaysia. Yup, that’s the 25th October thingey I mentioned earlier. Can’t wait lo!

In the meantime, this semester’s workload has been quite a handful more than the previous semester. I already had homework to do for my very first class, and it’s already two weeks past and I have assignments and stuff to get started on with one presentation due this coming Wednesday. However, I feel a bit more motivated today to get everything done and out of the way with so that I don’t end up having a mountain of work and regret waiting for me in the days and weeks to come.

On another note, my dad will be arriving on Wednesday. He’s going to be here for about 11 days, which is kinda long and I am kinda busy with uni stuff as well. We’re going to Sydney this Thursday till Sunday, and even that trip has sort of interfered with one of my assignments where we need to go to an advertising agency to interview someone and write a report about it. It’s a group thing, so I kinda don’t like the fact that we have a sort of tight schedule as well, since the person we’re going to interview is probably going to have an even tighter schedule making it a bit more difficult. I could ask my other 2 group mates to just go themselves, but I think that wouldn’t be fair. Then I’d be somewhat the freeloader of the group, and that’s just gross. 😛

Anyhoo, it’s now like only 10am, quite surprised I woke up so early. I feel like having cereals, but I just realised I didn’t put the milk in the fridge (it’s the long life type), and I like having cereals with cold milk. So, I guess I have to eat something else, but no idea what. I could fry something, but then I know that having fried food in the morning isn’t healthy. It’s not that I’m suddenly being a health nut or anything, but with all the damage I do to my health like by not eating vegetables or properly, I think every little bit I CAN consciously do helps!

K la, that’s all for this update. I’m going to go and ransack my tiny kitchen to see what I can find to eat! Till the next update, take care!
